Broomfield Bird Club is hosting Lutz for a free monthly presentation – Broomfield Enterprise

The Broomfield Bird Club is hosting a free Zoom presentation with Andrea Lutz from the Birds of Prey Foundation in Broomfield on Tuesday from 7-8pm.

“Each year, over 700 birds come for care from across Colorado and neighboring states,” said Lutz. “Since 1980, the Birds of Prey Foundation has enrolled over 17,000 birds. Specialized 24/7 care and large flying areas give hundreds of these magnificent birds of prey a second chance at freedom every year. Most of the birds we take in have injuries resulting from accidental or intentional human intervention. They have collided with cars or flew into windows, barbed wire or power lines. They were senselessly shot or poisoned. They were taken from the nest and often have severe nutritional deficiencies. They come with injuries like broken bones, concussions, and damage to their eyes, ears, and feathers, not to mention illnesses. The birds are often depressed, frightened and in a lot of pain, but they have an incredible will to live.”

Topics set to be discussed during Tuesday’s Zoom chat include species entering the foundation and how they are cared for, feeding, triage, medication and diagnostics, work during the COVID-19 pandemic and what the public can do to help.

The Broomfield Bird Club is a social club open to anyone interested in learning more about birds and their habitats. The club is a purely honorary board and registered as a non-profit organization. Annual dues are $20 per family, primarily used for speakers and to support bird-related local rehabs. Presentations are held on the second Tuesday of each month and bird walks are held on the second Saturday of each month with intermittent bird walks.
