Cat’s Hilarious Empty Bowl Protest Delights the Internet

A cat’s reaction to its empty bowl has delighted the internet, with the moggie being compared to an “angry child” in a viral Reddit post.

First shared in 2021 by TikTok user kotpersik27, the video, which can be seen here, shows Persik the cat playing with his empty food bowl.

Feline star Persik has over 870,000 followers on video-sharing app TikTok, where more than 34 million people have now viewed the hilarious video. Re-shared on Monday on Reddit forum r/MadeMeSmile, the video has since gained more than 75,000 upvotes on the site where it was posted with the caption: “kitty is angry and behaving like angry child!”

“He is using Morse Code,” joked one commenter: “He is clearly saying, ‘Feed me. I am hungry.’ He said it at least three times.”

Another Reddit user said: “Man that’s like my cat. If you’re 4 minutes late with her lunch she starts knocking down walls and lighting fires.”

One viewer commented: “This cat is awesome and that look on his face shows he couldn’t care less about anything until his bowl is filled.”

Persik lives in Russia with his owner, who won an award in January 2022 for her delightful cat video. On accepting the award, she told viewers: “He seems to be angry because the bowl is empty. The cat does not starve. It eats well, and this bowl is used.”

Working out when and how often to feed your feline friend can be tough thanks to conflicting advice from various sources, but VCA Animal Hospitals says that the number of meals your cat eats per day depends on the family schedule.

In a report, it said: “Cats should eat at least two meals each day, about 12 hours apart. But breakfast, lunch, afternoon, dinner, and right before bed schedule is an equally great option. If more than 12 hours elapses between meals, the stomach can become hyper acidic causing nausea.”

But VCA Animal Hospitals also says that the best source of nutritional guidance for your cat is your veterinarian, who will be able to answer questions about the type of food to give them, how much and when.

Persik’s food bowl video has also inspired other creators, with singer and TikTok sensation Meredith Bull creating a custom re-mix song inspired by the video. It includes the lyrics: “What are you waiting for? Don’t make me beg for more. Never thought I would stay, can’t believe I would act this way,” and, “I’m sick of this empty cup, sick of this empty cup.”

The song, which can be heard here, has gained over 300,000 views, with one YouTube user commenting: “Unironically adding this to my music playlist cause it’s straight fire.”
