Con Lima named Texas Horse of the Year 2021

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Joseph Graffeo, Erik Nikolaus Del Toro and Troy Johnson’s with lime was named Texas Horse of the Year 2021 by the Texas Thoroughbred Association. Con Lima was also named the 2021 Texas-bred champion 3-year-old filly after a remarkable season.

Con Lima, a filly now 4 years old by Commissioner out of Consolidator big Second Street Town bred in Texas by Lisa Kuhlmann, was a tour de force in 2021. She capped her impressive 3-year campaign with a top score in the Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes (G3T) in August at Saratoga Racetrackbeating a field of second-year international fillies.

His 3-year-old season began in early January for trainer Todd Pletcher with a wire-to-wire victory in the Ginger Brew Stakes quoted at Gulfstream Park. She followed that with four more victories in stakes races, including the Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3T) and Honey Ryder Stakes at Gulfstream, the Wonder Again Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park, and the aforementioned Saratoga Oaks. Con Lima also finished second in the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T) and the Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3T). She missed just one of eight starts in 2021, finishing fourth in Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) on clay. She amassed a 5-2-0 record for the year with $795,015 in earnings.

Con Lima’s dam, Second Street City, was named the 2021 Texas Broodmare of the Year, while Kuhlmann is the 2021 TTA Breeder of the Year.

The human awards – the TI “Pops” Harkins Lifetime Achievement Award and the Allen Bogan Memorial Award for TTA Member of the Year – will be announced at a later date.
