Dog owner shares her home renovation for Golden Retrievers

Under the stairs can be an awkward part of the house to fix up. More often than not, it remains neglected and filled with unwanted belongings or shoes.

But one woman has used the small space and transformed it into a miniature bedroom for her dogs.

Liz Greenwalt, 28, from Phoenix, Arizona, US, spent two weeks renovating her empty cupboard to give her golden retrievers, Cali and Kona, their own private room.

The registered nurse began by rewiring the area to fit a ceiling light for the dogs. She also added in an outlet for a fan to prevent overheating.

Liz plastered the walls, laid the flooring and painted everything white, then finished it off with palm tree patterned wallpaper.

The bright and spacious room was complete with a doggy water bowl and large comfy bed.

Liz said: “I built my dogs their own miniature bedroom under the stairs in my house. The video is just a small glimpse into the work that was done.

“I work full-time so I only had time to work on this after work and on some weekends. Overall it took me about two weeks.

“I started with a blank slate, so I had to wire the electrical, I added a ceiling light and an outlet for a fan. I framed in a couple of different walls and drywalled those. Then I laid the flooring.

“Then of course I did the wallpaper for a fun finish and added a floating water bowl.

“My older dog, Cali, goes in there when she gets sick of the three-month-old puppy.”

Another dog owner recently used the space under their stairs to create a doggy haven.

A unique property in Stockport, Greater Manchester, went on the market with a bespoke room reserved specifically for pets.

It had a handmade white gate with cut-out paws and bones, and lots of dog merchandise on the walls.

The previous canine resident – who appeared to be named Dave – was clearly an important member of the family.

He had his own orange doggy plaque and a personalized pillow on the sofa.
