Cricket star Steve Smith shoots viral video while trapped in an elevator for almost an hour

A 55-minute video of Australian vice cricket captain Steve Smith trapped in a hotel elevator has gone viral.

Known for his intensity in the crease, Smith showed fans a lighter side of his personality with his Instagram post while documenting his incarceration.

Fittingly, he had an act of support from Marnus Labuschagne, widely regarded as his protégé.

“It’s not exactly the night I had planned, I’m currently trapped in an elevator,” Smith said in a video showing fans how he was trapped 20 floors higher.

“The doors won’t open, it’s out of order … I’ve tried to open the door, I have this side open. Marnus is on the other side trying to open the door.”

Labuschagne helped Smith keep his energy levels high, supplying a handful of M & Ms through the doorway as he tried to open them.

Smith said, “It’s not much fun, I’m really not enjoying it here.”

As his boredom grew, Smith, in a revealing segment, used an Instagram filter to place his face on the body of LMFAO singer Redfoo, dancing “Sexy and I Know It” to parakeet smugglers.

When a technician finally arrived to free him, Smith got out to applause from the “rescue team.”

“It’s 55 minutes that I’ll probably never go back,” he said once safely back in his room.

Smith was in the lift longer than any of England’s hitters spent on the crease in their second inning in Test 3, aside from England skipper Joe Root.

As several users commented: “If it had been an English hitter it would have come out much faster.”
