Gold Coast woman recalls the moment she was attacked by butcher birds

A Gold Coast woman spoke of the moment she was attacked by a butcher bird while she was trying to enjoy her breakfast, and the incident nearly cost her eyesight.

Debbie Jones told 9News that on Thursday last week she was enjoying her breakfast at the popular Burleigh cafe, Pretty Handsome, when she decided to share her toast with a bird. Then it struck.

The single kiss got Ms. Jones on an emergency drive to the doctor’s office.

She now wears the wounds with a single eye patch.

“I started running down the street; all the blood ran down my face,” said Ms. Jones.

“I thought ‘ah, lost my eye!'”

Fortunately, she was able to escape without serious visual damage, and doctors said the beak was millimeters from the disaster.

“Do you know what the odds are? Now I’m going to play the lottery every day – the chance to have your eye out, win the lottery – who knows? ”Said Ms. Jones.

Despite the terrible argument, Mrs. Jones insisted that she would still feed birds.
