Rose Hill, NC – The North Carolina Department of Agriculture launched an investigation after a WRAL viewer shared a photo of a huge pile of dead birds.
This photo appears to show a large cluster of birds in a field. A bystander says it was taken from Herring Road in Sampson County.
It’s not clear what happened to the animals or how they ended up there. Farm officials said the first step will be to properly dispose of the birds.
There is no timetable for how long this process might take. Illegal dumping of animals can be prosecuted under civil law.
WRAL will continue to follow this developing story.
