Lisa Wilkinson to be absent from hosting The Project for another month

Lisa Wilkinson was due back on The Project desk on Sunday night but was absent. Now it’s been reported that she could be away for far longer.

Lisa Wilkinson’s absence from The Project desk is likely to last for another month at least following the fallout from her speech at the Logies.

The high profile host hasn’t appeared as a host on The Project since mid-June. She was expected to return on Sunday night, but Australian‘s Media Diary column has reported the presenter has quietly traveled to the US and would likely not appear as a co-host on the program again until late August.

She is thought to have landed in Los Angeles this weekend.

Australian has reported she will conduct interviews with musicians and movie stars from Hollywood and New York and file stories for the current affairs program before taking more leave, reported to have been booked before her Logies speech.

In her absence, Studio 10s Sarah Harris, Flash presenter Georgia Tunny and Sydney radio presenter Rachel Corbett are expected to take turns keeping the seat warm.

Wilkinson hasn’t been entirely absent from TV screens since the speech furore.

In early July, she popped up at rival network Nine as part of a program celebrating the Today show’s 40 years on air. That appearance was despite her leaving Today for The Project.

“A big piece of my heart with always stay right there with the Today show family and all the years we spent together at breakfast,” the media personality, 62, said.

She also blew a kiss to the viewers in the pre-recorded statement.

Ms Wilkinson also appeared on The Project in a pre-packaged interview with Michael Klim last week.
