Marks & Spencer’s ‘dog parking’ spot in Llandudno sparks howls of protest from dog lovers

Marks and Spencer’s is being urged to remove its “dog parking facility” from outside one of its newly built North Wales stores. The retail giant erected four hooks to encourage dog owners to park their pets and pop into its supermarket on the Parc Llandudno retail park.

But their good intentions have been met with howls of protests by worried dog owners online. Now, Rachel Roberts, an administrator of the Lost Dogs North Wales Area Facebook group has urged M&S bosses to think again.

Ms Roberts said she raised concerns, both locally with the Llandudno store and nationally. “We explained to Marks and Spencer’s about the risks of owners leaving their dogs outside shops. Not only because of theft, but also dogs can slip their harnesses and collars which could end with a devastating scenario for both, the dog and the family of the dog.

“There are other risks involved with leaving a dog tied up outside too – children and adults generally approach dogs that are left alone. Dogs get stressed after being left alone and that in turn can cause unwanted behaviors, which would result in the pets they being put-down.”

Ms Roberts said Marks and Spencer’s replied to the concerns she raised, promising to review the dog parking facility. She added: “To us, it needs removing and we would encourage dog owners locally NOT to use it.”

In their response to the Lost Dogs admins which North Wales Live has seen, an M&S spokesperson wrote: “We can’t promise anything will change overnight.

“Our management team will certainly consider your feedback in their next review of our facilities”.

North Wales Live approached Marks and Spencer for comment.
