ITV racing Saturday gets under way on the Flat at Wolverhampton with this handicap over 6f. The big guns here mostly mix 5f/6f and it might just be ABOVE will stay on best for Stuart Williams and Marco Ghiani. He was a fine seventh in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and has some form at 7f as well. Ended last year with a good win at Chelmsford.
ITV are also at Sandown Saturday kicking off with this novices’ handicap hurdle over 2m4f. MUMBO-MUMBO could be very well handicapped for Emma Lavelle and Tom Bellamy in the famous Musto silks. He was second to Surrey Quest at Doncaster giving 1lb and is now over a stone better off for 7l. He can be forgiven for a defeat as favorite last time over a longer trip where he weakened late on. He’s been dropped 2lb since then and has great each-way claims.
Now the Lincoln Trial Handicap over an extended 1m. BALDOMERO likes to race prominently so stall one might be ideal for Michael Appleby and Jason Watson. The lightly bred four-year-old has been in good form at Kempton since coming over from Ireland and is at the right end of the handicap to make a splash here. 8st 7lb is a great weight. He has each-way claims.
This is the feature betting race in the fabulously sponsored Grade 3 Paddy Power Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle over 2m. Kim Bailey has never had a runner in the Imperial Cup before but he has a right each-way chance here with MR GRAY SKY. Ridden by David Bass, the Gray Sky as won his last two starts at Leicester and Ludlow and was impressive last time. He’s edging up the ratings but has a great weight here.

This is the Listed Wilfruna Stakes over 7f and it’s a tricky race. HAPPY POWER has to be hard to keep out the frame for Andrew Balding and David Probert. My hope ran in Group 1 company last year and returned with a sixth in Riyadh in February. That was over 6.5f and he’ll be much happier here going back up in trip a little bit.
A Listed bumper over 2m. These are always very hard to sort out. The one that interests me is MARIDADI who has been off the track since January 2020. Then she won a bumper at Wetherby having been third in 2019 at Newbury. Obviously she has had issues, but she was clearly once promising and Hughie Morrison is well capable of getting her ready. Tom O’Brien is a positive booking.

Finally a Listed novices’ handicap chase over 2m4f. FRENCHY OF THE LARGE will do for me for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. The stable is not in as great form now as a few weeks ago, but this horse has been in great shape this term and probably didn’t quite stay nearly three miles at Lingfield last time. This trip should be ideal.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
