Bulldogs coach Mick Potter and captain Josh Jackson have reacted with shock to the news Josh Addo-Carr may have been dumped from the New South Wales team.
Reports today claim Addo-Carr will be axed by Blues coach Brad Fittler, having played 12 straight Origin games for his beloved state.
Towering Roosters winger Daniel Tupou is reportedly set to be named instead when Fittler unveils his 22-man squad tonight, ahead of the series opener on June 8 in Sydney.
“Yeah (it would surprise me). He is the incumbent, and a very good Origin player,” Bulldogs coach Potter said after Sunday’s game against the Dragons.
“I would be surprised if he’s not in the team, and it would be disappointing for Josh. I hope that’s not the case.”
Jackson, who has won a Brad Fittler Medal for his Origin efforts for NSW previously, was equally shocked to hear his Canterbury teammate may not make the squad.
“He brings a lot to a footy team. He’s been very good in that Origin side for a few years now,” Jackson said.
“He’s put in some great performances (for NSW), so it would be disappointing for him.
“Just the energy he brings around the place too, he’s pretty infectious. So I imagine that’s something Brad Fittler would like in his Origin camp throughout the week.”
