UK political figures react to Queen’s health

Newly sworn-in British Prime Minister Liz Truss says she’s “deeply concerned” by the news.

“The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime. My thoughts — and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom — are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time,” she said in a statement.

Labor leader Keir Starmer said his thought were with the Queen and her family.

“Along with the rest of the country, I am deeply worried about the news from Buckingham Palace this afternoon. My thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time, and I join everyone across the United Kingdom in hoping for her recovery ,” he said.

The Queen had just canceled a virtual Privy Council meeting

Earlier today, representatives for the Queen had confirmed she had postponed a routine Privy Council to rest, on advice of her doctors.

The Privy Council usually meets once a month, and advises the Queen on the use of royal prerogative and statutory powers.

The council said the meeting would be rearranged.

The Queen had just sworn in new UK PM Liz Truss

The monarch was photographed for the first time in two months on Wednesday (Australian time) after she appointed new British Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Ms Truss is the 15th Prime Minister the Queen has appointed since her reign began, and is the first Prime Minister the Queen had sworn in outside Buckingham Palace.

What’s the latest with the Queen’s health?

If you’re just catching up, the Queen is under medical supervision at her home in Balmoral in Scotland.

Members of the royal family, including Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are on their way to Scotland to be at the Queen’s bedside.

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, is also said to be traveling to Balmoral.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said her doctors recommended she remain under medical supervision.

“The Queen remains comfortable at Balmoral,” the statement said.
