Pop star turned swimmer Cody Simpson missed out on a spot in the 50m butterfly in his Commonwealth Games debut.

Simpson finished sixth fastest in his semi-final, but will return to the pool in the 100m butterfly.

Fellow Aussies Kyle Chalmers and Matt Temple all missed out in a big surprise.

But Simpson was still happy with his performance ahead of the 100m event tomorrow.

“It is good to get under my belt early in the week, especially with the 50. I’m having a good time so far,” he said.

“Pretty good to my personal best. We will see how we go for tomorrow but either way, it is a good experience, getting to learn the process. It is good.”
