He has graced the racecourse just twice in his career but there is little doubting that Saint Felicien is a smart prospect and he should take a huge amount of stopping.

Saint Felicien is one of three horses trained by Gordon Elliott and, unlike his stablemates Felix Desjy and Petit Mouchoir who have been around the block, he has the benefit of just one run in Ireland.

That sole start was impressive and it says everything about the regard in which he’s held at Cullentra House that Saint Felicien has been given an entry in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Even if he were to win impressively, he would be unlikely Saint Felicien would line up at Cheltenham as he is surely a horse for the future.

There’s little doubt he’s a hard horse to place this season but connections have found an ideal opportunity for him to make it three from three, and he looks a horse who will reward their patience in time.

Whiskey Sour has been a fine horse for Willie Mullins over both codes but appears to have his work cut out. It’s hard to see anything else getting involved.

Saint mount for returning Power

If anyone needs a break, Robbie Power is that man, and the rider who has had no luck with injuries has an ideal chance to get among the winners on his first ride back since October.

Power injured a hip in a fall at Tramore on October 14 and could scarcely hide his excitement about the prospects of riding Saint Felicien for the first time.

He said: “Saint Felicien is a nice horse and did it very nicely on his first start for Gordon at Gowran Park. He did what we expected to do that day. It’s a big step up into open company – he’s only had two starts over hurdles in his life – but we like him a lot.

“Given his inexperience, he’s not going to be straightforward what races we go for with him, but he was very impressive at Gowran Park and is entitled to take his chance. He’ll learn a lot more for it at Naas.”

What they say

Gordon Elliott, trainer of Saint Felicien, Felix Desjy and Petit Mouchoir
Saint Felicien looks the pick of them, the other two are older horses but we’ll see what happens.

Willie Mullins, trainer of Whiskey Sour
He hasn’t won for a while and will have to show his best form against some good rivals, but the race could give him confidence with only six runners and he has a chance in what is a very tight contest.
